The Senate Finance Committee has reached a tax credit deal that would expand the above-the-line deduction for qualified tuition-related expenses (tuition deduction) to the end of 2013, but would not extend the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC), a partially refundable $2,500 tax credit for higher education costs that expires at the end of this year.?NASFAA has joined several other higher education groups in expressing support for extending the tuition deduction, as well as the AOTC and other tax provisions not included in the package.
