VanHatten Writing Services: Book Publishing Options

As an editor I am asked by authors...What are my options for publishing my book?

While I can't tell them the best option, I can give them choices.

You can sell your manuscript to a publishing house. Definitely check with publishing houses before you sign anything. Typically the royalty is around 8%. If your main objective is to have a book to use in your promotion or to showcase you as a guru in your field, this is probably the way to go for you.

You can self publish your manuscript as a paperback book. You will make around 50% profit margin, give or take a little. Let's say you are a professional speaker or you give talks about your business. This would be the way to go for you. This type of book costs less so you can give it away or offer deals on the book at your speaking engagements.

You can self publish your manuscript as an eBook. Potentially this has the ability for the most profit for you. Why? You can sell it on your own web site as a downloadable PDF and your profit margin is almost 100%.

Keep in mind; you can publish your book in more than one of these ways. Plus, you can publish one eBook and the next book you write could be sold to a publishing house.?
