Another story line in last night?s 41-38 overtime win by Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl was the end of Andrew Luck?s great career at Stanford.
It didn?t end like I?m sure Luck would have imagined ? at the hands of the kicking game, which didn?t favor the Cardinal ? but there?s no way the disappointing loss can overshadow everything he?s done at Stanford.
Two Heisman Trophy appearances, 31 wins (including a BCS victory), nearly 10,000 yards passing, over 90 touchdowns ? Luck?s done a lot.
His decision to come back to the Cardinal earlier this year was met with mixed reactions. Luck probably would have been the No. 1 overall pick last year, but spending another year with his teammates and trying to win a national title was equally as important.
Hey, man. That?s what he wanted. Who are we to argue?
?Yes, it was worth it,? Luck said about coming back after the Fiesta Bowl. ?Not to say I enjoyed every moment, because I didn?t. But I would never regret it. I felt I grew a lot as a person, as a player.?
Luck?s taken some criticism this season for failing to win in big games. He also struggled a little bit down the stretch, but it?s tough to be perfect every game of every season and there was ? at least a little bit ? a halo hanging over Luck?s head that some were trying to knock off.
But nobody with a reasonable train of thought can deny Luck has what it takes to be successful at the next level.?Luck will declare for the draft in the next couple of weeks. He?ll probably be taken No. 1 overall by the Indianapolis Colts.
Wherever Luck ends up, and no matter how he does, he?ll handle it with class, just as he?s done all along.
That alone is worth rooting for.
