Why some of your recently updated iPhone and iPad apps are crashing

8 hrs.

If you've recently updated an iOS app, you may have noticed that it's suddenly become prone to crashing. Annoying, right? Just don't be too quick to yell at the folks who made the app?? because the cause might be Apple's fault.

The Verge's Bryan Bishop reports?that?several popular apps ? which have been updated in the last few days ??have been "crashing?immediately?upon launch." He lists?Instapaper, Angry Birds Space HD Free, and?GoodReader as examples, while Instapaper's maker, Marco Arment, names?over 50 other apps suffering from the same issue.?

Arment explains that users are seemingly helpless if affected by this problem. Even deleting an app entirely and reinstalling it won't fix anything as the troubled ones are somehow corrupt?before they even hit your device.?

Instead, you have to wait until "good copies" of the app are once again served by the Apple App Store and then?delete and reinstall it.

We've reached out to Apple for more details about what's going on and will update if we hear back. In the meantime, we suggest that you avoid downloading updates of apps which are somehow critical to you until this strange issue blows over. And if it's too late for that advice to help you? Sit back and wait a bit?? "good copies" of apps seem to be gradually trickling into the App Store.
