Dozens of animals rescued from what humane society agents describe as deplorable conditions are in need of new homes.
More than 70 cats are at the Capital Area Humane Society looking for new owners.
?We've had a tremendous number of animals come in through our cruelty investigation program, and they are all emancipated we have custody of them at the same time,? said Rachel Finney, Executive Director of the CAHS.
The CAHS recently seized more than 20 cats from a house on Cooke Road. There were dozens more, including dogs and a ferret, rescued from a property in Orient.
The organization has decided to leave its doors open this weekend in an effort to get more people to see the animals up for adoption.
?We are trying to think outside of the ?litterbox? here. We really want to highlight some of the amazing animals that we have available for adoption. We are willing to be at 2, 3, or 4 a.m.,? said Finney.
Instead of closing at 7 p.m. on Friday, doors at the Humane Society will be open all night so that the public have more time to search for possible pets.
The organization also plans to offer discounts on adoption fees.
