During a march this morning, a New York Police Department officer on a motorbike appears to have run over a legal observer with the ?Occupy Wall Street? protesters.
The man was then dragged across the pavement by police and had a baton placed against his throat, despite his laying there helpless. He was subsequently arrested.
Footage from another perspective, captured by a CNN i-reporter, shows the aftermath more clearly. Yet another cameraman, whose footage was published to YouTube, captured the bike cop clearly acknowledging that he?d hit the man, then proceeding to roll over at least one of the man?s legs.
The man has not yet been identified, but he was wearing a yellow hat, meaning he was part of the Liberty Park Legal Working Group, a collection of lawyers who are helping the protesters.
Update: A member of the National Lawyers Guild confirmed to Gothamist that the man is one of their?s, but a name hasn?t been released yet. The site adds that the NYPD repeatedly drove bike cops through crowds of protesters near Wall St. this morning, and that the man has been hospitalized, although the extent of his injuries are not known. He?s expected to be charged with ?disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, and two counts of criminal mischief.?
