Cirque du Soleil's Red Chair is bursting through the iconic tent that houses "La Nouba."
The seventh annual Red Chair Affair kicks off Central Florida?s arts and cultural season at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The gala provides a sampling of Central Florida?s arts and cultural organizations. Among this year?s performers: Garden Theatre, Yow Dance, Florida Opera Theatre, Orlando Ballet and the Orlando Gay Chorus. The entertainment moves briskly in the 90-minute show, with each group offering just a snippet of an upcoming event.
General-admission patrons get a pre-show at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, with entertainment by Flamenco del Sol and Crealde School of Art, among others. VIP guests, meanwhile, have access to a backstage buffet and bar beginning at 6 p.m.
Orlando Ballet opens its season with "Vampires' Ball," so it has staked its blood-spattered chair.
The Red Chair Affair is so-named because many theaters through the years have used red chairs for their seating. As a fundraiser, various arts organizations design their own decorative red chairs. The VIP guests get to bid on them at their private reception.
After the show, VIP guests receive gourmet cupcakes at another backstage gathering.

The gala takes place at the Bob Carr, 401 W. Livingston St., Orlando. Tickets for the Red Chair Affair are $22, $15 for students and seniors. VIP tickets are $225.
