Cathedral Prep hires former Mercyhurst University player as lacrosse coach

Former Mercyhurst University lacrosse?player Donald Benedict has been hired as the Cathedral Prep coach.

Benedict replaces Jeff Lord, who resigned in June. Lord?started the Ramblers? program in 2006 and led the team to a District 10 championship in 2012.

Benedict was a member of the 2011 NCAA Divisi0n II national championship team at Mercyhurst, where he played for Chris Ryan. Benedict played in?high school at Penn?Yan Academy in central New York. He has coached with?Ryan?during the?summer.

?I am very excited for this opportunity to coach a sport that I am very passionate about,? Benedict said.? ?I come from a strong and energetic lacrosse background, and I hope to spread this same enthusiasm not only at Cathedral Prep but to the entire Erie community and I am very grateful for this new opportunity that I now have.?

Prep went 8-11 this past season and lost to McDowell 12-6 in the D-10 title game.
