Growth in Health Law Jobs, Says Report

LawFuel.com ? Best Law Marketing Newswire ? Latest LawCrossing legal jobs search data reveals that the U.S. jobs market is picking up for healthcare attorneys. Currently, 731 active openings required to be filled. Additionally, the legal jobsite foresees that healthcare attorney jobs will provide an immense thrust to the 6.9 per cent job growth projected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for lawyers between 2010 and 2020

But despite the demand for healthcare attorneys, they are still not commanding gold-plated rates. In California, the situation can possibly undergo change if the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC), a professional association of nearly 3,000 attorneys, is able to alter the state?s Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act (MICRA) that places tight caps on attorney fees. This year it is becoming an important mission for CAOC to ensure that the caps are lifted, affirms Brian Kabateck, President at CAOC. If this happens, lawyer payouts will increase in lawsuits against doctors, hospitals, nurses, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), community clinics, firefighters and other health workers providing care for patients.

Harrison Barnes, Chief Executive Officer at LawCrossing, explains that the combination of an aging population, ongoing medical advancements and looming health care reforms are opening doors for advisers having an understanding of legal and regulatory requirements besides knowing the clinical and business realities of healthcare. He claims, ?This is the right time when health law job seekers should have their foot in the door and consider taking any job that will assist them in enhancing their experience and develop contacts within and outside the legal field. This will help them grow and expand their own book of business.?

Companies know that the new ?shared responsibility? rules under the law taking effect on 1 Jan 2014 will have to provide health insurance to their employees or pay penalties and most of them are bringing on more healthcare attorneys to comply with the Affordable Care Act and other rules. According to attorneys such as Les Johnson, Partner at Liles Parker PLLC, this is good news. He declares, ?The more they tinker with the federal regulations, the more work we have.? Similarly, Carolyn Metnick, Lawyer at Barnes & Thornburg LLP (Chicago), also sees the present scenario as a positive upturn. She claims that she does not think the demand will let up anytime soon.
